Full Description
Emergency Medical Responders provide immediate lifesaving care to injured or ill patients that access the EMS system.  EMRs have the knowledge and skills to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting an ambulance to transport the patient to a hospital.  Duties include but are not limited to:  opening and maintaining an airway; ventilating a patient; administering CPR and using an AED; providing care to multi -system trauma patients by controlling hemorrhage with direct pressure, using would packing and tourniquets, bandaging wounds and manually stabilizing injured extremities; administration of Narcan for opiate overdoses and treating severe allergic reactions with Epinephrine auto-injectors; they also manage and treat patients with heart attacks with oxygen and can assist in delivering  with the childbirth process.

The EMR applicant must be at least 14 years old ( but can be 18 years old with a completed Parental Consent Form) and meet the following requirements:

-Successful completion of an OEMS-approved Emergency Medical Responder training program in Ct with a minimum of  60 hours including a written and practical examination in class; class hours typically exceed 60 hours and most are 70  to 80 hours.

-Successful completion of the NREMT EMT cognitive examination (extra fee is paid by applicant)

-Successful completion of a CT OEMS psychomotor examination (extra fee is paid by applicant)

-The EMR certification is valid for 2 years and a Refresher class is 16 hours for renewal

-CFA also offers POST credit for law enforcement personnel
