General Training - Below Grade Fires and the Incident Commander -25: Feb 21

Full Description: DESCRIPTION: This class will focus on issues related to Below Grade Fires (basements/sloping grade structures) specific to the incident commander. This presentation will include background information related to the latest FSRI research related to basement/below grade fires. Also, LODD case studies related to these types of fires will be reviewed including Bricelyn St in Pittsburgh PA, San Francisco FD Berkley Way fire, and Frederick County MD (Cpt. S. Laird). Size-up considerations will be discussed from a Command Level perspective as well as the tactics that should be employed. It is the intent to make this presentation pertinent to a wide audience of fire officers so that this information can be applied no matter what type of structure is faced or the man power/resources available

INSTRUCTOR: James York
James York is a 26 year fire service veteran currently serving as a Deputy Chief with the Hartford Fire Department assigned as one of four Tour Commanders. He is also a fire marshal in his hometown and serves as an adjunct instructor at the Connecticut Fire Academy. He holds a M.S. degree in Fire Science from the University of New Haven and a Master's in Public Administration from UCONN. James has been actively involved in the latest training from the Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) including the Fire Dynamics Instructor Development Program.
