Full Description
DESCRIPTION:
This course examines the 13 most dynamic and deadly challenges incident commanders face on the fireground. Drawing on decades of operational command experience, including basement fires, hoarding conditions, and vacant structures, the instructor connects each challenge to firefighter line-of-duty deaths (LODDs) and key lessons learned. Participants will explore how human performance  the moral, mental, and physical qualities of leaders shapes decision-making during these high-risk incidents.

The session introduces Recognition-Primed Decision Making (RPDM), a proven model for making rapid, effective choices in high-stakes, time-compressed environments. By the end of this course, participants will be able to identify early warning signs of the most dangerous fireground scenarios, apply RPDM principles to improve decision-making, and evaluate how leadership traits and human performance influence command outcomes. Anyone riding the front seat or preparing to assume command will leave with practical insights to improve decision-making and leadership.
